Interlocal Agreements

Regional initiatives involving multiple jurisdictions – be they county, city, school district or other – require the jurisdictions involved to lay out the structure of their arrangement and the individual responsibilities assigned and assumed by the participants.   How this is done in Kansas is spelled out in K.S.A. 12-2901 et seq.   That law can be accessed by clicking on the following link:         http://kansasstatutes.lesterama.org/Chapter_12/Article_29/

An example of how multiple counties and cities have used this law to create a means of addressing a common concern in a defined region can be seen here.    http://www.reap-ks.org/pdf/interlocal_agreement.pdf

And while KARDO is primarily focused on Interlocal Agreements between multiple counties and/or cities, a good example of how jurisdictions within one county have used the state statute to formalize local government services can be seen by following this link.   http://www.salina-ks.gov/content/14532/10511/default.aspx
